Whata Swan made his 100th career harness racing start a winning effort, going wire-to-wire in the $22,000 Open Trot Saturday at Harrah’s Hoosier Park.
With Trace Tetrick in the sulky, Whata Swan left out of the starting gate and took command of the ninth race feature before the opening quarter mile in :27. Following in the pocket was Cassius Lane (Michael Oosting).
No one was willing to challenge Whata Swan past the half mile in :56.3 and then the three-quarters in 1:26. Then Katie’s Lucky Day and driver Trevor Smith came first-over and started up after Whata Swan.
As they started down the stretch, Smith ducked to the rail with Katie’s Lucky Day and was starting to gain ground on Whata Swan. It was too little too late as Whata Swan held gamely to his lead, winning by a half-length in 1:53.1 over Katie’s Lucky Day with Burrow (Travis Seekman) third.
WHATA SWAN REPLAY
A six-year-old stallion by Swan For All, it was career win #31 in his 100th career start. He is trained by Luis Quevedo for owner John Barnard of Miami, FL and paid just $2.40 to win as the overwhelming 1/5 race favorite.
Trace Tetrick was the hot driver of the night with five winners on the card.
