Harness racing driver Jimmy Whittemore won six races including the $6,500 co-featured pace with Major Leaguer (Art Major) at Vernon Downs on Saturday (July 13).
In the featured pace Snap Call (Steeven Genois) was first to the quarter in :26.4 and first to the half in :55.2.Ā Kisses From Above (Leon Bailey) came first-up going around the far turn and led to three-quarters in 1:24.3.
As they made the turn for home Kisses From Above held the lead.Ā Major Leaguer ($7.00) came flying on by to take the lead but had to brace for the late charging Northern Rein (Josh Kinney).Ā Major Leaguer dug in and won in 1:53.3.Ā Northern Rein had to settle for second.Ā Prairie Classic (Dylan Huckabone-Miller) finished third.
Major Leaguer is a 10-year-old gelding by Art Major.Ā He is owned and trained by Whittemore.Ā It was his third win this season and 43rd career victory.
MAJOR LEAGUER REPLAY
Lucky Sevens (Chapter Seven) and driver Steeven Genois captured the $6500 featured trot.
Lucky Sevens ($9.90) was first to the quarter in :28.2.Ā Purpose Blue Chip (Luke Carswell) came along side to challenge going down the backstretch.Ā Lucky Sevens led to the half in :57.3.Ā Woodside Gabe (Leon Bailey) was the next to make a move as he would battle for the lead as Lucky Sevens was first to three-quarters in 1:27.0.
As they reached the stretch Lucky Sevens and third place finisher Woodside Gabe continued to slug it out.Ā Lucky Sevens shook him off and held off the late charge of second place finisher American JJ (Michael Miller) to win in 1:56.3.
Lucky Sevens is a 7-year-old gelding is owned and trained by Leopold Sawyers.Ā It was his third win this season and 23rd win of his career.
LUCKY SEVENS REPLAY
Whittemore won the first four races of the night and the last race of the night to go with his feature win.Ā His other wins came with Immaculate Prayer, Simple Man, Only Passing Thru, Dancing Lisa, and Billy V.
