Monticello, NY— On a sloppy track, 17-1 Win And Dream (Winning Fireworks, Fern Paquet Jr) won the $6,500 harness racing Open trot at Monticello Raceway on Wednesday afternoon (Feb. 28).
Chip Chip Conway (Jim Taggart Jr) took the early lead, followed by Win And Dream in second and Hot Summer Knight (Gregory Merton) in third. They passed the first quarter mile in :31.
They were still in this position as they came by the stands for the first time. From the outside, Patrick Hanover (Michael Merton) rushed to challenge the leader, going past the half mile in 1:02.3. Making their way down the backstretch, Chip Chip Conway was holding on to the lead, with Patrick Hanover closing in from second. Win And Dream was racing in third as they approached the three-quarter mile in 1:32.2.
As they turned for home, Chip Chip Conway was in front. From the inside, Hot Summer Knight and from the outside, Win And Dream moved up to challenge the leader. Win And Dream won the battle, crossing the wire in 2:02. Chip Chip Conway took second and Hot Summer Knight came in third.

Win And Dream is a 6-year-old gelding owned and trained by Steven Ray. He paid $36.00 to win.
Gregory Merton and Kyle Dibenedetto had driving doubles. Jody Dunning had a training double.
