The world’s biggest Amish Standardbred horse sale takes place this Friday, May 27 in Mt. Hope, Ohio. It’s the tenth annual Mid-Ohio Memorial Trotting Horse Sale.
The demand for solid dependable buggy horses has risen steadily over the past few years and the prices for these horses have risen as well. The sale features not just buggy horses, but exceptionally safe, well-broke horses from the leading Standardbred pedigrees in the industry. These horses are the backbone of the sale.
The sale actually begins Friday morning at 6:00 am for viewing of all the horses. Then at 8:30 am is the hitching and driving of horses in the sale. The selling of the horses begins at 1:00 pm.
Horses are hooked up to carts and carriages and they jog around the show ring so everyone can see how they perform.
This reporter will be attending the sale and will report on all that is taking place at this special event. It is reported that more than 10,000 Amish people will be attending the event. That is quite a bit more people then attend any harness racing sale.
There are also numerous vendor booths and perhaps the best food and produce products imaginable on sale.
There are 158 horses scheduled to be auctioned off Friday. Many of these Standardbred are sired by top stallions in North America including Angus Hall, Bar Hopping, Muscle Hill, Royalty For Life, Sebastian K, Southwind Frank and more.
Last year the sales topper was SD Rocketter (Ozzy Ozzy – Miss Zeeva – Tuff As Millie), a yearling colt who sold for $255,000.
You can listen to sale live via conference calling. Dial 712-432-8773 – Conference ID #52346. And the United States Trotting Association will also be prominent at the sale with their booth.
