Yankee Glide gelding grinds out a solid win

Zapaca (Yankee Glide, Steeven Genois) captures the $7,500 featured harness racing trot at Vernon Downs on Friday (September 20).

Zapaca ($4.70) took the early lead but Whats The Word (Chuck Connor Jr.) got by just before getting to the quarter first in :26.3.  He used a :30.0 second quarter to be first to the half in :56.3.  Zapaca made his move going around the final turn and led to three-quarters in 1:26.1

As they reached the stretch third place finisher Valaottalove (John MacDonald) came first-up to challenge and second place finisher Yankees Beast (Joe Nassimos) came flying three-wide but Zapaca dug in and won in 1:54.4.

Zapaca is a 7-year-old gelding by Yankee Glide.  He is owned by Devan Flood and trained by Gary Gibson.  It was his seventh win this season and his 18th career victory.

Steeven Genois, Leon Bailey, and Truman Gale each had driving doubles.  Gary Gibson had a training double.
