W C Kenzie Cookie (Justin Huckabone) charged late to win the featured $6,000 fillies and mares’ harness racing pace at Vernon Downs on Friday (August 6).
Jericho Diva (Steeven Genois) went to the front and led to the first quarter in :26.1. She used a :28.2 second quarter to hit the half in :54.3.
Jackie’s Express (Leon Bailey) came first-up to challenge as they went around the far turn. Jericho Diva was first to three-quarters in 1:23.2.
As they made the turn for home it became wide open. Lady Limelight (Chris Long) took a short lead as they reached the stretch.
W C Kenzie Cookie ($30.80) came flying down the stretch and was followed by second place finisher, So Diva (Kerin Warner). W C Kenzie Cookie scored a lifetime best clocking of 1:53. Dojea Gigi (Brad Irvine) finished third.
W C Kenzie Cookie is a 7-year-old mare by Camshaft Hanover. She is owned by Michael and trainer Sam Sergi. It was her fourth win this season. She now has 21 career victories.

Justin Huckabone drove three winners on the card. He scored his other wins with Siros Blue Chip ($27.80), and Sheer Talent ($7.30).
Leon Bailey leads all drivers with 67 wins. Justin Huckabone is second on the list with 36 victories. Chris Long is third with 29 trips to the winner’s circle. Jimmy Whittemore (26) and John MacDonald (21) round out the top five.
Jeff Sorenson leads all trainers with 18 wins. Bruce Lauer is second with 15 wins. Jessica Okusko (14), Justin Huckabone (13), and Gary Gibson (12) round out the top five.
Vernon Downs returns to live racing on Saturday (August 7) with a 10-race card. Post time is 6:10 p.m.
