Beauty Is Blind responded to a taxing loss last week with an Open Pace harness racing victory at Monticello Raceway on Monday for his fifth win in six starts.
The Betterthancheddar mare persevered in the two-path throughout the :27.3 first quarter to take the top position. Reinsman Cory Stratton, trying to complete a triple, controlled the tempo aboard Beauty Is Blind to :56.1 and 1:26 middle fractions. He then ordered more speed from the mare as a trio of challengers crept up on the final turn.
Beauty Is Blind responded keenly to the urging, holding the cavalry charge at bay, and drawing away in mid-stretch to secure the win in 1:55.1.
Special Achiever (Michael Merton) finished second by two and three quarter lengths in a tight photo over Sandy Win (Braxten Boyd). The win price was $3.30.
BEAUTY IS BLIND REPLAY
Beauty Is Blindās win came a week after a nightmare trip resulted in her first loss at Monticello Raceway. She won her first four starts at the New York oval after moving there from Plainridge Racecourse on Jul. 12 before suffering her first defeat in a second-place finish after being parked the mile on Aug. 9. Christopher Petrelli trains for David Del Pozzo of Methuen. The four-year-old mare is now 15-for-43 lifetime with more than $45,000 in career earnings.
Monticello Raceway hosts another Open Pace on its next card on Tuesday, Aug. 17. First post of the eight-race card is set for 12:10 p.m. EDT.
