Bangor, Maine – Harness racing driver Matthew Athearn conjured up the delightful main dish as an eight course (race) menu was presented at Bangor Raceway on Wednesday (May 11), dramatically serving up Twin B Frenchtoast to rave reviews from all the fans assembled.
On a day in which blazing front end speed discouraged most closers, Athearn turned the tables on the rabbits, keeping the five-year-old son of Sunshine Beach buried at the wood for the entire first half of the mile before engineering a deep, sustained rally bid to nab the 1/2-length victory timed in 1:56.
The win was the first in twelve seasonal starts for Twin B Frenchtoast who is trained by Michael Hitchcock for owner Michael Pease.
In other Queen City news, the punters at Bangor were celebrating a value filled afternoon on Wednesday as only one winning favorite was found on the entire card. Additionally, kudos are due to race secretary Paul Verrette for piecing together a card in which the purse money was widely distributed with eight separate drivers and eight separate trainers afforded a chance to bask in winner’s circle glory.
Bangor Raceway proudly features live harness racing every Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. (EDT) with the popular Sunday matinees getting underway at 12:15 p.m. Simulcast wagering is available Wednesday through Sunday from noon until 7:00 p.m.
