Hagemeyer Farms is pleased to announce that Heart Of Chewbacca (Bring On The Beach-JT’s Chewbacca-Four Starzzz Shark), p, 3, 1:48.4f ($409,690) will join their harness racing stallion roster at their Clarksville, Ohio breeding facility for the 2023 breeding season.
Heart Of Chewbacca still holds a pair of track records for colt pacers—a 2-year-old mark of 1:51.2 at Northfield and a 3-year-old record of 1:48.4 at Scioto Downs. Heart Of Chewbacca stands his first season for a fee of $2,500, making his foals eligible to the rich Ohio stakes program.
Hall of Fame trainer Ronnie Burke, who conditioned the stallion said that Heart Of Chewbacca was, “one of the fastest and best looking horses to ever come into my barn, a true delight.”
Heart Of Chewbacca was an outstanding freshman, garnering victories in the Buckeye Stallion Series (BSS) and Ohio Sires Stakes (OSS), including a 1:51.1. score at Scioto Downs on Aug. 8, 2020, in a $50,000 OSS leg, which equaled the track record and set a national season’s record at the time for a 2-year-old pacing colt on a five-eights-mile oval. One week later, on Aug. 17, he lowered the Northfield Park track record by two ticks by pacing in 1:51.2, a record he still holds today. He was second in the $300,000 OSS 2-Year-Old Championship, clocked in 1:50.3, and wrapped up his 2-year-old campaign with $195,598 from five wins and two seconds in seven starts.
At three, Heart Of Chewbacca continued his winning ways, with triumphs in the $40,000 Hackett (in sturdy black stallion also competed at Yonkers, Lexington, The Meadowlands, and Hoosier Park, racing against some of the season’s top sophomore colt pacers, with his best effort coming at Scioto when he paced to a 1:48.4 triumph on June 12, 2021, as he lowered the track record for his age and gait, a record which stands today. Heart Of Chewbacca then tied the national season’s record for 3-year-old pacers on a half-mile track on July 31, 2021, at Northfield Park, by capturing a $50,000 OSS leg in 1:50.4. At the end of 2021, the gutsy stallion had added another $177,232 to his earnings coffers from five wins and five seconds in 18 starts.
Heart Of Chewbacca was retired after his 4-year-old campaign that saw him add another trio of wins, along with a second and a third to his resume in 11 starts, along with $36,860. He paced to a winning 1:49.4f triumph at Scioto Downs on Aug. 6, 2022, besting some of the finest pacers in the Buckeye State. Throughout his career, Heart Of Chewbacca battled many tough miles against his main rival, Charlie May, besting that Ohio Horse of the Year champion on three occasions.
From a pedigree standpoint, Heart Of Chewbacca is top notch, as his sire Bring On The Beach, p, 3, 1:53s ($12,001) is a full brother to the mighty Somebeachsomewhere, p, 3, 1:46.4 ($3,221,299). His dam, JT’s Chewbacca p, 3, 1:153.1f ($32,220) hails from The Panderosa broodmare Santinio’s Rosa, p, 5, 1:50.3 ($166,827), making her a half-sister to Lady Neigh (by Bettor’s Delight p, 1:52.4 ($149,943) and Atta Boy Bones (by McCardle) p, 4, 1:51.1f ($75,338), among others.
