If you want it, you gotta earn it and that is exactly what Hemsworth N (Sweet Lou) and harness racing driver Scott Zeron did in winning the $39,000 Invitational Pace Monday (June 17) at Yonkers Raceway.
The 2nd race feature saw race favorite None Bettor A (George Brennan) eventually take the early lead away from Hemsworth N by the opening quarter mile in :27.3.
They raced single file past the half mile marker in :56.1 with None Bettor A comfortable on the lead. Then the unthinkable happened heading in the backstretch, Zeron pulled Hemsworth N out of the two-hole and came after None Bettor A as they raced by the three-quarters in 1:24.
Hemsworth N was able to take the lead away and had clear sailing around the final turn and heading down the stretch. Then came Venturesome Arden N and driver Jason Bartlett. They had followed Hemsworth N second-over in the backstretch and was full of momentum.
Coming down to the wire it was just the two horses out in front, and it took the photo finish camera to declare Hemsworth N the winner by a nose over Venturesome Arden N in 1:51.1. Covered Bridge (Jordan Stratton) was third.
HEMSWORTH N REPLAY
It was the third win this season for Hemsworth N. The seven-year-old New Zealand bred gelding is trained by Jared Bako for 1362313 Ontario LTD and paid $5.00 to win as the second choice in the field.
