Skowhegan , Maine …. Drew Campbell threw in a dominant harness racing performance on Friday (August 23) at Bangor Raceway, dazzling under the bright lights of the Queen City oval, while winning three races (and nearly a fourth) on a perfect late summer evening in Maine.

Campbell opened the throttle from the word go on Friday, sending a pair of Mark Harris trainees smartly down the highway in classic gate-to-wire fashion, including American Fighter (2:00.2-$13.60) who held on by a length despite a decelerating back-half and Rose Run Slider (1:55.4-$21.20) who briefly lost the lead at the head of the lane and but then dramatically battled back to reclaim victory from near-certain loss in the very last strides.

AMERICAN FIGHTER REPLAY

Campbell nearly repeated his dramatic comeback act in the very next race as Rey’s N A Ruckus fell a mere head of reclaiming the lead at the wire when Mattucci (1:56-$13.00), driven by Heath Campbell, interrupted his brother’s win streak.

Campbell wasted precious time revisiting the winners circle though, grinding first over into legitimate fractions with the classy trotter, Little Macabee (1:59-$11.80), securing the 38th career score for the ten-year-old son of Chapter Seven who is trained by Chad Tompkins.

LITTLE MACABEE REPLAY

Campbell’s three wins moved him into a third place tie on the Bangor Raceway leaderboard with driver Aaron Hall who had a pair of winners himself on Friday night.

McGwire Sowers also teamed a pair of Bangor winners’ home on Friday.

Maine’s harness racing circuit now embarks on its Windsor (Maine) Fair swing. The nine-day harness racing meet opens on Saturday (August 24) with a 1:00 post time. Racing will be featured daily (with the exception of Wednesday) through the traditional big 15-race program on Labor Day.

Racing resumes at Bangor Raceway on September 4.
