With a first-over move in the backstretch, New Zealand-bred Hemsworth N (Sweet Lou) was able to grind out a 10-1 harness racing triumph in upsetting the $35,000 Invitational Pace Monday (April 29) at Yonkers Raceway.
Sumomentsomwhere A (Yannick Gingras) was first on the lead off the starting gate with race favorite Energetic Hanover (Jason Bartlett) grabbing the two-hole trip to the first quarter in :27.3.
There was no movement going to the half mile in :55.3 as Sumomentsomwhere A continued to lead the way. Then in the backstretch, driver Scott Zeron came first-over with Hemsworth N, charging right up from fifth place to within a half a length of Sumomentsomwhere A at the three-quarters in 1:23.2.
Around the final turn and the two leaders were battling it out eye to eye with Hemsworth N looking strongest of all. Then coming to the wire, Hemsworth N wore down Sumomentsomwhere A and went on to win by one length in 1:50.4. Energetic Hanover beat out Sumomentsomwhere A for second place.
