The New Americana responded to a class jump with a quality performance on Monday as she moved into theĀ Monticello RacewayĀ harness racing feature pace and scored her fourth consecutive win.
She accelerated off the start from the rail post in line to Bruce Aldrich Jr., but she had to briefly surrender the lead to a quicker Special Graduate (Jim Taggart Jr). Aldrich Jr. ordered his charge to retake the top spot, and she did so prior to completing the first quarter mile in :28.4.
The New Americana delivered :58.2 and 1:27.1 middle fractions on the lead and still headed her six foes as they entered the stretch. Special Graduate dove to the inside and gained along the cones, but The New Americana prevailed under pressure in 1:56.2.
Special Graduate missed by a neck in second, and Too Much Sun (Michael Merton) took show. A valid $2 win ticket returned $6.40.
THE NEW AMERICANA REPLAY
Owner James Teri claimed The New Americana, a six-year-oldĀ Yankee SkyscraperĀ mare, on May 10. The horse’s Monday victory will also be the fourth straight start in which she’s been claimed – Robert Cacamese paid the $10,000 tag that made the mare eligible for the contest. She’s made 25 lifetime trips to the winner’s circle in 115 attempts and now earned more than $225,000. Christopher Petrelli trained.
Monticello Raceway will be back with eight more races on Tuesday, May 25. First post will be 12:10 p.m. EDT.
